Socks To Be

Over the weekend I pulled out my last skein of Knit Picks Dye Your Own Sock Yarn (or whatever they call the fingering weight yarn in the dye it yourself group). My original plan was for a pale blue color. I was shooting for the pale blue that you see as shadows on icebergs. You know, that clear blue that's just barely there. Anyway, I overshot it and ended up with a light medium blue or a dark pastel blue - not what I was going for. So I decided that obviously these socks wanted to be a bright Ultramarine blue, so back into the dyepot went the yarn, with lots more blue dye and some violet to pull the color into Ultramarine (which should always be capitalized because its such a gorgeous color). An hour later, this is what I pulled out of the dyepot! Its an almost solid Ultramarine. There are some areas that have more purple and some that are more blue, but I think it will knit up in a mostly solid looking pair of socks. And as for this skein being my last skein of the dye it yourself sock yarn? There are 6 more skeins on their way and one of them will be that elusive pale blue. (I guess that means 5 of them could end up as different shades of blue.)
