Help Needed!

I need a little help with something.  My original November Knit Something of the Month project isn't going to work with my yarn (not enough yarn) so I need to find a new pattern.  I thought I'd ask you guys to help me out here and maybe I could find some new patterns I don't know about too!

The yarn is Socks That Rock Lightweight in Little Bunny Foo Foo (light browns with pink and cream).

Here's what I'm looking for:

  • Probably a sock pattern, November is for socks, but I'm not 100% locked into socks if you come up with something else that will work.
  • The pattern has to work well with multicolored yarns.  This is kind of the tricky part.
  • There are only 360 yards of this, which is enough for socks, but not cabled socks.
  • I'd prefer a pattern with a fairly easily memorizable repeat.  This is probably a given with anything that will work with a multicolored yarn, but I thought I'd mention it anyway.  My brain is a little crazy right now and even when the kitten (still no name) settles in more, the month isn't going to get any easier as it goes along.
So, if you have any ideas, please let me know in the comments!  I'll take both pay and free patterns into consideration, and I have a pretty huge number of sock books so if you can think of anything in a book, feel free to let me know about those too.  I do have a couple of patterns that I tend to use for default in these types of situations, but it's always fun to find new patterns too.  Oh, I should probably share my own "default" patterns:
  • Waffle Socks - I adapt them for fingering weight which is easy to do with the 4 stitch, 4 row repeat.  Easy pattern to memorize and it works great with any yarn.
  • Vog On Socks - Easy lace pattern and the pair I've made are regular sock length without the ruffle.
  • Waving Lace Socks - I've done these in solids and multicolored yarns and surprisingly, they work well both ways.  Easy pattern to work and memorize even though it's a longer repeat than the other two.  They're the pair on the cover.
  • Plain Vanilla Stockinette Socks - Classic for a reason and you can't get any simpler.
I just want to add one more non knitting related thing (and this is gross so stop reading if you don't do gross).  The kitten hasn't gone #2 yet and he's at the vet's today having an enema.  I hate dragging personal stuff onto the blog but you guys are so supportive and sweet about all the fur babies who've been here and after what happened with Finn and the intestinal blockage, I'm a little freaked out.  If you  don't mind, it would be truly appreciated if you could say a prayer for the little guy or send good wishes  if you don't pray, that things will "move" along for him soon and he'll feel better.  We're assuming at this point that it's stress related which is totally understandable, but he needs to get things moving at this point.  Thanks so much.

Well, I know these are oldies but goodies--how about some Monkey socks, or Jaywalkers? They look great with multicolored yarn and are classic patterns.

Alternatively, if you want something a little different, you could try the Skew socks from Knitty. I made these a couple of summers ago and it was a really interesting construction.

I don't have any pattern ideas for you but I am definitely sending good thoughts and prayers your way.

If it helps, when we got our dog as a puppy, she didn't do her big job for a very long time. I'm sure she was having trouble adjusting. I hope it's the same for you.

Here's best wishes and a little prayer that things 'move along' smoothly for the little guy. Waffle socks? Who knew? I always called them basket weave.....I guess the name isn't as important as the pattern, but I have those on the needles now, along with a couple of other projects. Good luck with your new kitty!

How about the smallest size of les abeilles by Anne Hanson(Knitspot.com) I've knit several of these and they are so easy to memorize.

It's not a free pattern, but Everyone Outta the Pool was designed for multi-color yarn and looks pretty darn cool! And a lot of the projects used a different color for the heel and toe, so maybe you could do that to help with the small yardage problem.

Of course you're freaked out! How could you not be? Best wishes for a speedy resolution (I had to think for a moment how I wanted to phrase that!) Can't wait to hear that the little one is just fine and which socks you're doing!

A few months ago, my son adopted a young adult kitty from the local shelter. She was fine for the first few months, but when he hit the busy fall sports calendar (my son is a sports writer) she was left alone more than usual, she also has some elimination issues that the vet said was probably due to stress. The vet gave my son some special food (sorry - I don't have the particulars) that helped matters along. She hasn't had a problems since, even when my son brought her 300 miles to our house for a week-long visit.

All the best to you, the little guy, and Logan (of course), and hope that the problem is resolved quickly.

I'd second Jaywalkers - simple but effective!
Sending moving thoughts and prayers to the little guy. I'm sure the vet will help, but liquid paraffin (drip into mouth via a syringe) can also work. He's going to need to be comfortable before he can go, so it is probably new home and family stessyitis.

Good luck to your cat (whom I will resist the urge to call Foo Foo after the yarn)! I'm glad that the vet can take care of him so you don't have to treat him at home.

For a pattern, I like Everyone Outta the Pool too.

I'd suggest
"The Age of Brass and Steam Kerchief", if you decide to knit a shawl.

Prayers for your new addition - I'm sure it's just the stress of a new environment.

Socks: love most of Cookie A's designs www.cookiea.com/shop Pointelle is a good one, maybe Thelonious. Also Hagrid's Motorcycle Socks (free), Mojo (free), Firestarter (free) has a little cabling for interest, Nutkin (free) all available on Ravelry, or Summer Solstice (pay) which I think has a link on Ravelry to site to buy -- I made these and they were very easy to memorize.

As for socks, I've made Breaking Hearts and Harvest Dew and they both look great in multicolor. My usual default is Leyburn Socks.

If you want to try a hat instead, Symetrie by Woolly Wormhead is a fun pattern for variegated yarn.

Good luck with the kitty. Mine is 14 now but when he was a kitten he had all kinds of digestive issues. He outgrew them around his first birthday.

Not gross, poor little one! Transitions are hard. Many prayers heading baby's way. I hope you don't think this is gross, but a mommy kitty gets things going by cleaning behinds. A soft fabric like an old T shirt soaked in warm water to use as mommy's tongue can help to stimulate things if there is still a problem after the trip to the vet.
