Sometimes you just need a ReDo
About four years ago I knit October Frost. It's a lovely, cabled cardigan. In the four years it's been sitting in my closet, I've worn it twice. I'll pull it out to wear, but then it gets folded up again and put back away. It's too big and too boxy and it's just not flattering on me. I love the cables and I love the yarn, but the style of it just doesn't work for me. Maybe it's the saddle shoulders, maybe I should have redesigned it smaller (I made the smallest size the pattern is written for), but I'm swimming in it.
Anyway, I knew what I needed to do and over the weekend, I did it - I frogged it!
Max and Logan had never seen a sweater being deconstructed and they found it fascinating. Max even helped by laying on the pieces while I unravelled it. Logan inspected the yarn balls as I wound them. The yarn is Peace Fleece Worsted Samantha Katya Pink and I love the color. Peace Fleece has that slightly scratchy, wooly feeling to it that just feels like it will last forever in the right pattern. The kind of sweater you can throw on for years and it never pills, wears like iron and just keeps on going. I think I already know what I want to make out of the yarn, but I really (really, really) should finish my Austin Hoodie first. Remember that? Yeah, I think I started it last April or May so I really should get that finished before it's one year old. Maybe I should hide the Peace Fleece from myself until I finish Austin Hoodie.
Anyway, I knew what I needed to do and over the weekend, I did it - I frogged it!

You are brave indeed
last year I was faced with a similar situation, I had a lovely shawl collared vest in alpaca that stretched and grew on its own so it didn't fit anymore,
since I knew I would no longer wear it as it was, I put it in the washer on warm and then into the dryer for a little bit watching it carefully, I now wear it all the time as I live in New england and I have a well fitting FELTED alpaca vest.
I love doing that. I like to wear a sweater for years and frog it to make something new....maybe a more current fashion. I feel very resourceful when I do reuse the yarn. I love the color of that Peace Fleece too. Do you have to wash the yarn first or does it seem okay now?
Also, I thought of you the other day. Our Golden pup learned to "counter surf" just like your Logan. We have never experienced that before with our other dogs. The kids just need to learn not to walk away from their dinner and expect it to be there when they return. We are all loving him though. I think, he is the most well behaved and smartest dog we have ever had. We love him.
I started my Austin Hoodie around the same time you did. It's nearly there. I've got about 6 inches of sleeve yet and the hood just needs to be sewn together. I'm glad I'm not the only one that has let it "marinate" for a while!
Funny, I was just talking about starting over on my blog, too. Maybe it's the season for frogging...
congratulations!! I've done that a few times and I'm always happy with the results of the overhaul. Some yarns are just too pretty to sit in a drawer :)
