We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Blog Post With...

...Shingles!  Yep, I have shingles.  I went to the doctor last Friday and they put me on anti-viral medicine so hopefully it won't last as long as it otherwise would.  Fortunately I'm not in excruciating pain like the people in the commercial (there's a commercial for a shingles vaccine for people over 60, in case you haven't seen it), but I don't feel great either.  I'll be back when I have something to show you and I feel better.  Carry on with your Monday...

The anti-viral worked within a day to start lessening the discomfot for me. Hope your recovery is quick, too. There is never a good time for this but the holidays just doesn't seem right. Get well soon.

Yikes. I had them when I was 41. Not fun. If they are around your midriff (a common area) I suggest you find the loosest, softest clothing to wear--things that barely touch your body. I spent a great deal of time in a billowing soft voile nightgown. Luckily I was able to work from home because I sure couldn't wearing any 'supporting garments' during this time. Hope that the meds do their trick and that you feel better soon.

I had it last spring, and went on the anti-viral medication right away too. It was over quickly, and not too painful. When all was cleared I got the vaccine. I hope you feel better quickly. Shirley, in PA

I'm supposed to get the shot ... doctor keeps nagging me. Guess you will be the incentive. Hope it goes away quickly.

Remember to stay away from anyone with a low immune system; my dad was on kidney dialysis when I got them and the doctor made sure I did not come in contact with him. Mine were low grade as well but I remember looking down at them when I was in the shower and having flashbacks to when I was little having the chicken pox......they look like little volcanos!

Sorry to hear this! I wish you a speedy recovery! I came down with shingles on the left side of my forehead in the spring of 2005 after quitting my job under stressful conditions. The itching about drove me nuts, but even though I didn't start the proper meds for almost 2 weeks (theory was they are best if started within 48 hours), I still was able to recover fairly quickly. Shortly after my 20-something daughter & my 70-something mil both came down with them on their torso. They had a much rougher time of it than I did, but I still have a scar on my forehead.

I hope you feel better quickly! I had a coworker once with shingles and she was definitely uncomfortable but certainly not like the commercials.
